Good questions - got answers?

CL MARSHALL commented.

What do I see in Pocomoke?? Potential. There are basic elements that can lead to viable economic and societal successes. Look at what we have done lately...New firehouse (top shelf), Discovery Center opening, the Marva showing cool movies, HARDWIRE, Freddy Mitchell back where he belongs, Schers still at it, our own skatepark, and numerous other positive things on tap.

Something/some people here are getting things done.

But with all this going for us we seem to always shoot ourselves in the foot. Wiretapping allegations by the mayor, special investigations on issues ranging from last months election to the Frank White issues of ten or so years ago, and many others. It's always something. Repeated I am asked by folks from the northern part of our county the same question, "What the hell is going on down there?? Is it that bad?" My attempts at deflection and whitewashing are beginning to fall on deaf ears.

As a community we need to find a true identity. "Friendliest town on the Shore"..What the hell is that?? Who gave us that designation?? How did we earn it?? Time for an update??

Just who are we as a community?? What do we as a community stand for?? What will we not tolerate?? What will we represent?? Key questions whose answers will determine our future.

Just who are we as a community??
    --------------------------------------

we are the drug dealing capitol of Worcester county, an open drug market where the police turn a blind eye to open air drug traffic then handcuff citizens that do something about it wit trumped-up charges.
    --------------------------------------

What do we as a community stand for??
    --------------------------------------

many of us stand for what's right, we fight for the right to be respected tax paying model citizens of what used to be a great place to live. Yet we allowed comeheres to sit in the highest offices and we stood by while they tried to make our laid back city the corrupt city or town in which they came here to get away from. When the comeheres realized that our way of life didn't put honest dollars in their pockets and that our simple way of life in a quiet 'friendly' town was not enough to support their knee breaking habits from which they came, we remained quiet and allowed them to rule from a thrown like a king with an agenda.
    ---------------------------------

    What will we not tolerate??
    ----------------------------------

Good question; personally I will not and have not tolerated ANY of the off beat tyranny we have been subjected too for over 30 years, but obviously MOST others have and will. it sickens me that the fine people of this once great town has sat back with the "if it ain't bother'n me I ain't bother'n it" attitude all while the tyrants take a chunk of our pride one little piece at a time. Just take a ride down 4th st. and look at what was once nice homes with flowers looming and rocking chair porches and tell me we are or have been on the right track.
    ---------------------------------------

    What will we represent??
    -------------------------------------

When? How about 'What DO we represent?'
What we "will" represent is NOTHING! A grain of sand on the Atlantic shore, ask anyone from out of town about Pocomoke and the first thing they say is, "Pocomoke? Oh, you mean P-city? yeah that's where so-n-so goes to get their drugs" (usually specific)
So to answer the specific question, we "will represent" the drug capitol of the shore. Damn shame too. Until more citizens really get involved, and that does not mean going to a council meeting because a neighbor wants a permit for a shed that's to close to your property. it means going to city hall and saying get the hell out, ALL of you... we the people have just fired you. Then we can be something but until then we are and will be what we are today.

  2. Honestly Folks, check back 30 years or so, before the current regime, we WERE the friendliest town on the eastern shore and drug free and the water wasn't that bad. The quality of life was much better also. This friendly stuff is a facade, before you can declare yourself a friendly town you have to be friendly to all your citizens.

    That's a big 10-4.
I remember well when we could leave on a Sunday to go to Salisbury and never lock the house, we'd leave the front door wide open with nothing but a screen door there.

If you were turning on a side street and a car was there they would back-up to give you room.

I lived on Clarke ave then and we had to park in the street, never had to lock our car or even roll up the windows.

Everybody knew everybody, the hardware store and western auto would leave their back door open to the public to walk in or out of the store.

Back then everybody used to talk about the manager of newberrys because he was an untrusting soul and would follow people around the store peeking at them to make sure they didn't pocket something, boy would his nerves be something today, heck he'd have a breakdown now. He was nice though, He used to let me borrow their Santa suit every year during times when they didn't need it.

Yep times sure have changed and Pocomoke got a dose of 'change' all at once, very noticeable 'change' at that.

Now not only do we have to lock our doors, we have to lock them while we are at home, same with our cars, nobody knows anybody and if they do half of them look the other way rather than a friendly wave.

Rant off, I could do this all day about what was and now is. It's a shame

Interesting info here...I agree that most citizens of Pocomoke are the type of folks that I'm proud to call friends and neighbors...but how have we come to let ourselves get into this situation. In times as this we need to circle the wagons and protect/preserve what it is we like about Pocomoke. Rather than drive to Salisbury to pick up that new dress..check out Schers...Rather than go to Wally World for that bike tire go to Lusby or Ace, Been to the Upper Deck for dinner lately??? We need to support what is uniquely ours. Else the Come Here's will make our city like the city they come here from. We can't stand for that.

Now for the hard questions...Who amoung is is the man/woman to challenge for our leadership role? Who cares enough to take it upon themselves to work for the people of Pocomoke to correct the wrongs that we keep hearing time and time again?
