Pocomoke's Strengths

I can think of several:

The water has gotten better over the 30 years I have lived in Pocomoke. When I first lived on Walnut Street the water was often pink and had a strange odor. Later the water would at times smell like rotten eggs. This was due to the use of sulfur to remove the high iron content. This odor persisted even after making the recommended change in our water heater. Now the water has no odor. It is still hard water.

The sanitation/trash truck crew does a good job and is reliable.

Communication of changes in trash schedules, bulk trash days, city hall closures has improved with improved use of the comment area on our water/sewer bills.

Pocomoke has a website so the agendas, minutes, other basic information is available.

I would really like to develop this list of strengths and need your help to do that.

Please comment and answer the question - what is good about Pocomoke?

  1. the water still stinks if you let it set a few hours, at times when we run bath water it's pink, blue, green.
There are a lot of positive things about Pocomoke. I can't really think of anything that has gotten "better" that outweighs what it used to be. we have a lot of nice things that get built and just forgotten about. We could have one of the nicest parks on the shore with some imagination, it's nice, but if I were a visitor it looks barren and unused.
Our city maintenance dept. does a good job when they are allowed to.
The trees down town add a nice look, as well as the new crosswalks.
The laurel st. boat ramp (I remember when the maintenance building was there) and the dock that runs from laurel to the park is nice.
The trail is nice but needs more attention and a way to close it off at night.

  2. Looks like you are having a hard time getting people to say what is good about Pocomoke.

To me its the people who live here, most of them.

We have a real sense of community on our block, the kids can play and adults often get together to help each other out, BBQ or just hang on the porch or the yard.

I am surprised that there has not been one bonfire or chimenia fire on Sixth St since Harvey Davis tried to intimidate our local Gulf War hero.

The bad things from City Hall really outweigh the good and instilling fear in the people is a bad thing.

Why are the honest law abiding citizens afraid of the Police when the criminals deal drugs in the open 24 hours a day and laugh at the cops.

Nothing in Pocomoke City will change until City Manager Boss Hogg Russ Blake is removed from office. Preferably in handcuffs for his high crimes and treason against the people of Pocomoke City for over 33-years.

  3. I think the best thing about Pocomoke is its people. I have lived in Pocomoke for over 30 years and can't imagine living elsewhere. I do believe there is room for improvement. If everyone took the high road; stopped name calling and took action Pocomoke would be a better place. I did not vote in the last local election. I wanted to vote for Stephanie, I do believe our town needs some fresh ideas, but the name calling on her blog set a very immature and negative tone. I hope the town and its citizens can work together to improve our area.
